I started making ceramic musical instruments about five years ago, with a special focus on Peruvian whistling vessels and other pre-columbian instruments, such as flutes.

Learn how sound works and how to easily construct whistles and ocarinas - skills that can then be applied in more advanced levels.
At this point, you'll be able to make an ocarina from just about any form. Move on to flutes, double whistles, double flutes and more.
Apply what you've learned in the first levels to create single and double chambered water whistling vessels.
To make ceramic musical instruments, you'll need to learn the basics of working with clay.
Though not as relevant as with utilitarian pottery, understanding how and when to use glazing is important.
